Hamish is a Partner in EY’s EMEIA Financial Services Advisory business, leading the UK Banking technology team and EMEIA payments practice. He has over 25 years of industry and advisory experience, working with a broad spectrum of clients from established international institutions to new entrants and FinTechs. He is focussed on understanding and balancing the opportunities and risks presented by the changing environment.

He has worked across diverse geographies including India, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, the Middle East, the US and Europe. He started his career in industry designing satellite and mobile telecoms systems, before moving to advisory services and focussing on digital banking, payments and financial crime.


The COVID-19 pandemic has triggered a boom in digital payments globally. New players are competing with established financial institutions. The efficiency and accessibility of digital wallets threatens to make conventional credit and debit cards obsolete. The future of fiat money itself is in jeopardy due to the emergence of cryptocurrencies and blockchain. Yet cybersecurity lags far behind the adoption of new digital tools.
